This is an attractive large black and white band pitcher. Dating to the second half of the 1800s, this flat sided pitcher is decorated with 19 black and white bands that are nicely formed. Measuring 8 3/8 to the rim, a large pitcher of this size would likely have been used in an inn or tavern. These got hard use and not many have survived.
The pitcher is in remarkably good condition with only a small chip on the inside of the foot rim which doesnt show or detract. One side of the spout had glaze that was still wet at the start of firing in the kiln and attracted kiln dust which dried in the glaze. There is also a spot on the side where the pitcher touched another piece in firing and left a mark in the glaze. These larger size pitchers are hard to find in any condition, this would enhance any collection.
